The Day Ava was Born! |
My parents decided that having six kids was a great idea! Seeing as I am number six in the line, I am pretty glad they did! Growing up, our house was filled with the normal things... laughter, fights, and sibling rivalry. Even though there were times we didn't get along -and for some of us - never got along, we still were each other's protector and supporter! The ideology, as twisted as it is, I can hate you, hurt you and make fun of you.. but no one else better! was evident in our home. We always stood our ground for each other and think were always so happy to have such a big family to love and cherish.

Snuggled in! |
I always hoped that when I had my own family (which I thought would be 5 strapping boys who idolized their mother! ha) that my children would love, honor and protect each other. I have been blessed with two beautiful girls; each having their own challenges, but both loving the other one so much. It is Grace's name that Ava cries out when she is hurt or afraid. And being the older sister, Grace promptly comes to the rescue - even if it is just a hug or kiss! I am so thankful!

Now, I must admit that not every day is roses! My girls are 4 years apart - so sometimes Ava can get in the way of whatever it is that Grace deems important at the time. My sick sense of humor finds it hilarious to hear, "AVA.... come on... leave me alone!" or "Mom, Ava is bothering me - and she's doing it on purpose!" It makes me smile to just think about it! The truth is, Ava IS doing it on purpose, most of the time.. and the devious look on her face is worth a million bucks! Of course, after hiding the smile, we step in and right their worlds again. But I have to say - it cracks me up!
I also have a soft spot for Grace who is one of the most resilient children I know. Since her earliest years, she has dealt with her daddy being deployed and then dealing with Ava's condition - meaning the ambulance rides, the hospital visits and/or all things related to her emergency situations. For an adult, those situations can be crazy scary. She somehow takes it all in stride! I believe the Lord blessed me with Grace whose so strong and not easily upset so that in those times of crisis we can readily and without too much disruption deal with the circumstances. She is so level headed and so tender hearted that her main concern is Ava and what we need to do to help her. She is such a blessing!

I am so grateful for my own siblings. I love each one of them. My life has been greatly blessed by having them in my life.I been blessed to have my sister, who is 3 years older than me, be my best friend my entire life. We have always supported each other and have loved each other always. It is my prayer that my own girls will have that same kind of relationship with each other and that they will cultivate it each day! There is nothing better than knowing that some is cheering for your successes and there to hug you in your times of sorrow. And let's not forget the gut wrenching giggles, the fashion police assistance, and hand holding moments that we rely on our family for! I am indeed grateful for siblings; my own and the relationship I get to witness each day with Grace and Ava.
