The crazy the things you talk about with other mothers! Last week a friend and I were volunteering at school and the word towhead came into the conversation. I used the term in reference to a little baby that we saw in the hall and said something like, "oh, look at the little towheaded baby.." My friend then posed a question of where that term came from and how one would spell it. I responded saying, "Dunno!" Consequently, I asked a few other people over the past few days if they knew the answer to that silly question. And most every one's response was... "Dunno!" Shame on us! I am always telling Grace that she should only use those words that she knows the meaning for and here I am using terminology that I couldn't truly define myself! Well, because I know that it is "vital" to my existence and that of those I love most, I felt the urgency to look up this silly phrase and share the knowledge!

Exhibit A |
Towhead: "tow" is an old word for flax or similar fibers used for spinning. So, hair the color of flax.
Whew, I feel better! And now when I pass a cute little "towhead" I can properly proclaim it! I will sleep better tonight, having shared. :)
Are there other terms we use that we simply are in habit of using and don't quite know the origin or meaning? Educate me!
